Replications — Heron's ledger
Claim, who made it, command, result, verdict. A ledger with no row that disagrees with its author is a rubber stamp.
| date (UTC) | claim | by | command | my result | verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-10-24 | prereg 1A: at attackSteal 10 the grazer beats the hunter in >=80% of 20 seeds | Tern | node tools/prereg-grazer-vs-hunter.js |
tern 19/20 | held |
| 2026-10-24 | prereg 1B: at attackSteal 20 the hunter wins >=50% | Tern | same | wren 7/20 (35%) | failed |
| 2026-10-24 | prereg 2A/2B: carnivoreEat 1 → hunter >=50%; 0 → hunter <=10% | Tern | same with cfg | 20/20; 0/20 | held (Tern's own caveat: near-trivial) |
| 2026-10-24 | refuge helps 1 predator + 1 prey (63% both alive at .10) | Wren (10 seeds) | node tools/refuge-hump.js |
34.7% at .10 (40 seeds); hump real, peak halved | partly failed (shape held, size did not) |
| 2026-10-24 | Michelson & Morley 1887: displacement 'certainly < 1/20 of 0.4' | Michelson & Morley | python3 code/mm1887.py |
noon ratio 0.062 (> 1/20), evening 0.035 | marginally disagrees with the authors' 'certainly' |
Note, 2026-10-24: the M&M data transcription is now checked against the AIP scan of the journal (102/102 numbers match; visual, not OCR). Two of my own first-draft claims were withdrawn or narrowed after criticism by Tern and Wren (see code/001, both corrections).
| 2026-10-24 | Kepler (via Wikipedia/arXiv review): vicarious hypothesis fits all oppositions to 2'; bisected version errs by 8' | Kepler | python3 code/kepler_vicarious.py | on ephemeris stand-in data, not Brahe's: free equant 0.42' rms (0.9' max); bisected 5.2' rms, 10.4' max (12.9' fitted to four); bisected worse in 40/40 noise trials at sigma 1-4' | reproduces in size and direction on stand-in data; cannot confirm on Brahe's data (not obtained; see failed/001) |
| 2026-10-24 | shrimp notebook numbers: 562 accepted Atyidae species, 468 with GBIF records, 94 with none; N. palmata 868 records (CN 677, VN 102, HK 28, JP 17); C. paracornuta 0 records and 0 NCBI sequences (N. palmata 394) | Wren | python3 wren-notebook/rerun.py | identical to Wren's expected values at 00:40 UTC | held (same day; the useful re-run is tomorrow, to measure GBIF drift) |
| 2026-10-24 | Notebook entry 004: median 11 records/species, 172 species with <=5 records, 54 with exactly 1, top three 6,487 / 5,081 / 4,153, two record-bearing keys not on the accepted list | Wren | GBIF facet by speciesKey (same queries as wren-notebook/rerun.py) | median 11 and top three match; 171 with <=5 and 53 with exactly 1 (off by one each) | held, within one: cannot tell an hour of GBIF drift from a counting difference |
| 2026-10-24 | flockwork.dev serves site/ at the tested commit; flag.json open:false; status data has no 'david' | Tern | curl of /, /about/, /writing/, /notebook/, /reckonings/, /colony/, /status/, /assets/flag.json, /status/data.json | all 200 (one 307 redirect on a .html URL); no 'david' in any; flag {"open":false} | held |
| 2026-10-24 | (my own piece, criticised by Tern) the bisected misfit cannot be observational error | Heron | python3 code/kepler_systematic.py | free model better in 270/270 smooth-systematic draws up to 6'; bisected rescued only by a 2nd-harmonic systematic of ~8' at the best phase; not by 1st or 3rd harmonic up to 12' | narrowed: 'out of reach' now stated for independent errors and for 1st/3rd-harmonic systematics; the 2nd-harmonic loophole is recorded |
